WOYWW

It is that day of the week again when we open up our work surfaces to scrutiny and show what we are working on!
Here is the cardigan I began knitting last week.  It is short sleeved, perfect for a summer cover up. The pattern is Mystic River by Drops Design and is available to download free!
The pattern is so easy and forms a lovely fluted edge so I have adapted it for a scarf which I have already started.  A perfect project to keep in the car as I don't need notes and patterns.  Obviously I am not advocating knitting and driving although like me I am sure you have seen it all!  I have a few times a week picking up the kids where I am sitting waiting in the car so I pick up my knitting to pass the time!
I love this Debbie Bliss magazine, so many fantastic patterns in there!
The notebook is one I covered earlier, you can see it properly here!

 The mug cozy

You might notice my new look blog banner.  I thought it time I updated it and have gone back to my original blog name crafty cardi higgins, I think it works better now that I am revisiting all things woolly!
So, what are you working on this week!
Please join us, for more details pop on over to Julia's blog!

For my card today I used  the new Bingo card and sentiments set
Although this will be perfect as a background embellishment I thought it would also look great as the main focus of a card.  This would be especially good for a masculine card where you don't want all the frills!

I layered up the bingo card to give more depth.
This is also my card for Cute Card Thursday where the theme is
Simplify - to keep it simple, CAS
WE are sponsored this week by our lovely monthly sponsor Whimsy Stamps!

WOYWW

I am still knitting!
Totally got the knitting bug that has been going around lately and this is one bug I don't mind catching!
To the left are my two finished dishcloths, have another ball of this so might whip up another one, they are great for knitting up in the car while waiting to pick up the kidlets!
The cream strip is going to be a mug cozy, just need to find a button now!  Will try to remember to show it adorning a mug next week!
I almost finished my second one last night, they knit up in no time!
Anyone remember this?  This one was published in the 80's when I was heavily into knitting.
Not sure I will be knitting much from here, it is a tad dated although there are a few things that don't seem to have aged at all.  These guides are great though, they have all the techniques, perfect for a quick reference.  So glad I kept them all these years!
I haven't altogether abandoned my papercrafts, I will have a few things to show over the next week!
If you would like to share your desk or just have a nose at some others then pop over to Julia's blog for more WOYWW details and links!

A recipe and a vintage find!

We were entertaining at the weekend and wanted to have a Scottish flavour to the evening so I changed up a regular trifle to become a
Cranachan trifle.
It has the usual fruit and sponge in the jelly, a layer of custard but the top is made up of toasted pinhead oats, whisky, honey and raspberries mixed into the whipping cream ( I would use double cream in the UK but no such thing here) then raspberries piled on top and dusted with icing sugar.
It had rave reviews and was oohed and aahed at when brought out of the fridge so thought I would share with you!

While looking for my old knitting patterns I found this.
Our old family heirloom tablecloth.  It was made by my Nana many years ago, if I had to guess I would say probably in the 60's or 70's.
 she embroidered the pattern
 and crocheted the edging.
This is how I remember her, she was never sitting down without a piece of crochet or knitting in her hands.
